The department is divided into seven organizational units – chairs . These are: Chair of Didactics of Biology, Chair of Ecology, Chair of Animal Physiology and Ethology, Chair of Geobotany, Chair of Chemical Education and Chair of Zoology and Microbiology. Within the Department of Biology, there is the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Nature Protection, which is an organizational unit of researchers from the Department of Biology. The members of the institute work in the framework of both basic and applied research in biology, ecology and nature conservation. Appropriate equipment of laboratories and collections is related to pedagogical and research work. A vivarium operates within the department.
