The Department of Biology responds to the challenges of the present and the future by offering educational programs in the fields of several intertwined and interconnected natural sciences. The basis of educational programs are classical biological, ecological and chemical knowledge about living beings about their functioning at the chemical, biochemical, cellular, organic and ecosystem level of organization and their connection with the environment. Related to this is the development of scientific fields such as microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, which open up new opportunities in science, technology, and sustainable development. The following are areas related to identifying, understanding and solving nature conservation problems. The programs are rounded off by pedagogical programs related to the transfer of professional knowledge of biology, ecology and chemistry to the education system at primary and all secondary schools.

Students

Students are involved in research work through projects, seminars, master’s theses or otherwise. Field exercises, professional excursions in Slovenia and abroad, research camps and exchange of domestic and foreign students are organized for them.

A wide range of knowledge enables graduates, masters and doctoral students to integrate into other fields of study and beyond, wherever a thorough and thorough knowledge of biology, ecology or chemistry is required.
